Welcome to our newest Storey, at 6 Orsman Road, in the heart of Haggerston’s creative hub. Comprising 34,000 sq. ft. spread across five floors, the building is pioneering sustainable materials for flexible offices.
There are many reasons to be excited about Storey 6 Orsman Road: from its sustainable focus and productivity-boosting biophilic concept, to the bustling talent of the area, embodied by the sleek design of locally-based architects Waugh Thistleton.
Haggerston is rapidly evolving, now home to the likes of Dezeen, Resident Advisor, Dice, Roksanda, Ganni and Alexa Chung. In addition to art, design, and music studios, the vibrant area is dotted with independent restaurants, cafes, and boutiques, making it the perfect spot for a Storey office. Whilst making the most of Haggerston’s buzz, Storey 6 Orsman Road is located in a tranquil area, right on Regent’s Canal.
True to our principles, the building consists of flexible and customisable private offices, shared workspaces, bookable meeting rooms and a café area with locally-sourced healthy food. The amenities also include private and shared terraces with incredible views over London, as well as cycle and shower facilities.
Enhancing productivity and wellbeing
The design of the building is aligned to the core principles of sustainability: reduce, reuse, recycle. Complementing the surrounding water and nature, Waugh Thistleton has used biophilic design throughout the building, including the use of Cross Laminated Timber, the material that they have pioneered.
Visible natural materials, like exposed wood, are proven to increase productivity, and represent more sustainable alternatives to traditional building materials; wood is also less prone to accumulating dust, significantly improving air quality. CLT offcuts from the building have been repurposed to make furniture, and, inside, additional natural materials include Clayworks and Marmoleum tiles.
Timber also offers acoustic advantages, absorbing and dampening sound, so each open-plan office feels just as intimate. Along with acoustic guidelines developed by leading practice, Sandy Brown, the interiors create a sense of calm and focus, even amid the bustle of a busy day.
Studies show biophilic design can increase productivity by 8% and wellbeing by 13% (Workplaces: Wellness+Wood=Productivity report by Pollinate, 2018). Companies with timber interiors also report higher staff retention, greater productivity and fewer employee sick days. The building’s harmony with nature extends all the way to the rooftop; a bio-diverse terrace space with brown roof, insect boxes, trees and edible plants, curated by FFLO Landscapers for both relaxation and focus.
Every one of the building’s floors is flooded with natural light coming through floor-to-ceiling windows; according to the Ergonomics International Journal (2018), natural light reduces eyestrain by 51%, headaches 63%, and drowsiness by 56%. For when it gets darker, we use an intelligent lighting system which will ensure lighting is only used when needed.
As with all Storey buildings, 6 Orsman Road is committed to achieving 0% waste to landfill from day one.
Perfectly connected
A stone’s throw away from Haggerston Overground, and a brisk walk from Silicon Roundabout in Old Street, Storey 6 Orsman Road is conveniently positioned between Shoreditch, Islington and Dalston.
The building is in a prime position for cyclists, given its proximity to the canal and its paths, and just moments from several major cycle routes including Super Cycle Highway 1.
Liverpool Street and Broadgate are just eight minutes by bike (we’ve tested this ourselves), and the building includes a variety of facilities to support cyclists, with ample bike racks, modern showers, lockers, and plenty of fresh towels.
